What does Wi-Fi stand for?

If you're like me and still unclear on what Wi-Fi actually means beyond its basic function of connecting devices to the internet, here is a great summary. Definition Wi-Fi is a family of wireless network protocols based on the IEEE 802.11 standards. It's the most widely used computer networking technology in the world, allowing devices to exchange data through radio waves. The Wi-Fi Alliance defines Wi-Fi as  any "wireless local area network  (WLAN)  products that are based on the IEEE 802.11 standards .  However, since most modern WLANs are based on these  standards, the term "Wi-Fi" is used in general English as a synonym  for "WLAN".
